“Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[a] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[b] you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept.” Mark 14:72 (NIV)
Peter denied Jesus not once, not twice, but three times. I can’t imagine what it was like to be present during this time, what it was like to witness Jesus being arrested, and how Peter must have felt when Jesus said these words to him. As I sat and thought about all of this recently, I realized that I am just like Peter. So many times when things are great and I have the “mountain top” experience, I am all in for Jesus. But when things aren’t going according to my plan and hard times hit, I sometimes deny Jesus. Do I have faith that Jesus can redirect my children when they go down the right path? Do I respond the right way when someone needs my help or do I worry about how I will have the means to help them? Do I respond the right way when the tough times hit and have faith that I will get through them? So, do I show that I know Jesus during times like this, or do I deny knowing him?
The truth is that Jesus is existent during all of these times. Do I allow him access and believe in his power every single time? HE is able.
