When Life Gets To Be More Than You Can Stand, Kneel

“Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!” Psalm 95:6-7

Grandma Watkins prayers

One of my first memories praying as a child was with my Grandma Watkins. I was about seven years old. I remember how she walked me into the bedroom and knelt on the floor. As her elbows propped on the bed, she clasped her hands together. I remember wondering what she was doing because when I prayed, I did it laying in my bed or at the table before a meal. As I knelt down beside her, I felt different. That night, what my grandma taught me stayed with me and I remember how it changed my heart.

This night with my grandma carried over to a time, thirty-five years later that was much too difficult for me to handle. Standing and praying wasn’t enough. I needed to feel God and I needed to feel him being much bigger than me. I dropped to my knees in front of many people and absolutely didn’t care what they thought. Seconds later, I was surrounded in prayer. What happened next? I found myself putting my face to the floor. I had never done this, but it came natural to me in the moment and felt right. This became my normal for the next few hours and days. Oh how I know God heard me!

So when life gets to be more than you can stand, practice Psalm 95. Do what the song The Akin family sings about. Kneel!
