Promises, Promises, Promises

2 Peter 2:4

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Promises, promises, promises! Have you ever been disappointed because someone promised they would do something? Maybe it has happened so many times that you have given up counting on people to do what they say they will.

2 Corinthians 1:20

“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “YES!” And through Christ, our ‘AMEN’ (which means ‘Yes’) ascends to God for his glory.”
The promises God has given to us in Christ will always be fulfilled.

The very first promise of God was in the garden. After Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, God already had a plan to redeem mankind. Satan may Have won the battle for a little while BUT GOD had a plan.

The first promise was that a man would come from woman and he would strike his (Satan’s) head even though Satan would deliver what he thought would be a death blow to God’s plan. Satan would only bruise his heel. Jesus would pay the price to redeem man.

That fulfillment of that promise was in Jesus. Countless other promises God gave down through history but this one is the greatest of all because it allows us access to heaven. What the law (commandments) with their rules and regulations could not do Jesus accomplished at Calvary.

So many other promises are available to us because of our personal relationship with Jesus.

2 Peter 2: 4. Exceeding great and precious promise are ours through the one who called us out of darkness into the light. (1 Peter 2:9)

2 Corinthians. 1:21-22 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”
Verse 21. He establishes us in Christ
He anoints us
He seals us and keeps us
He gave us the Spirit in our hearts

When we place our trust in Jesus to save us, we become partakers of the divine nature through Him. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can “escape the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 2:4

Now since we have these promises available to us, why are we not using them to bring others into the kingdom?

God is faithful. He never lies. He is continually there for us. ‘That is why scripture tells us that, all the “promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “YES!” And through Christ, our ‘AMEN’ (which means ‘Yes’) ascends to God for his glory.”

John Piper puts it this way in Desiring God., “When you realize that AMEN and YES mean the same thing, here’s what the verse means. In Jesus Christ, God says his YES, his AMEN to us through His promises and in Christ we say our YES, our AMEN back to God through prayer.”

If others have failed us, and they will, we need to place a marker in our lives that says, “My God is faithful! “

Promises
All His promises are true
They are there for me
And they are there for you.
Though trials will come
We trust the Son
Just make a list
Of what He’s done
All His promises are true
They are in His Word just for you
If you seek you’ll find
Strength and courage are yours
As He designed
Cling to the promises
And you’ll find rest

Blast from the past!
Remember this great hymn?

Standing on the promises of Christ My King
Though eternal ages let His praises ring.
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God
Standing on the promises that cannot fail
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, Standing, Standing on the promises of God!

Promises.. We can rely on God’s promises to live the spirit-filled life.
