Worship Making oneself low.
Worship is choosing to put ourselves under the authority of the Creator, and having the desire to follow Him.
The word in the Hebrew language is Shachah. It is to bow down, to fall down, face to the ground. Humbling oneself before God Most High.
More than a feeling
We, in the Western culture, have made worship about feeling! Is real worship about emotions that come from singing upbeat songs with loud stirring music that raises our pulse, and our makes our hearts race.
Shachah Hebrew means to Bow Low

“Shin” is pictured as fire showing God as a consuming fire with passionate love. “Chet” in the pictogram of the Hebrew language is a place of safety, a sanctuary. “Hey” is a picture of a man with arms raised. It says “Behold, pay attention. The word Shachah in these three letters of the Hebrew alphabet tells us God has a passionate love which is a place of safety, a sanctuary. But we need to pay attention because He is also a consuming fire. As the Creator of all, He is to be honored and worshipped. Jesus bowed to the Father, “Not my will but thine be done.”
Angels bow in worship. In Revelation, when John saw the Lamb, he fell on his face as a dead man. Abraham bowed before the three men who came to visit.
We bow to the will of the Father
True worship is bowing our will to the Father. It is falling down with face to the ground in humility. It is not necessarily a physical action but is also a spiritual bowing that God honors. Many times it seems our arrogance and pride keep us from surrendering and bowing in worship.
Praise in Hebrew means “to shine, boast of His glory
Praise is just as important to the Almighty. When we worship, praise flows from our worship. Praise happens as a natural outpouring of the bowing in worship. The word for praise used most often is Halel. The story of King Jehosophat illustrates for us an example. We read in 2 Chronicles 20:18 “And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. 19. And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
Worship is praise that shout of God’s mighty works
Praise-Halel “to shine; boast of the glory of the Lord; shout His mighty works.
Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground. God won the battle for the children of Israel. Praise in the proper order: worship-bowing and surrendering our will to His will, should cause us to burst with praise- glorifying God with instruments, voices, and emotions. This brings pleasure to the Father and He will set ambushes for our enemies and pour our blessings on His children.
Father,
I pray we will bow in worship because you are worthy. You are the Most High God who loves us and sent Jesus to redeem us so that we might live with you forever.
May we bow our faces to the ground to surrender our wills and give you the honor and respect you deserve! May we then rise up and give our sacrifice of praise with our lips to proclaim what wonderful mighty things you have done for us.
“Worthy art thou, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou didst create all things, and by thy will they existed and were created.” saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” Rev. 5:11-12
