Have you ever seen an eagle soar in real life?
A few years ago, I was doing Henry Blackaby’s “Experiencing God“ study in Sunday School. One of the classwork assignments for the day was to go to a city park, to a lake, to the countryside, etc. and spend time with the Lord. I was to focus my heart on Him in thanksgiving, praise, and worship.
I went down to the city landing beside the river to be alone with the Him. There had been a lot of rain in the days before, and the first thing He showed me was all the debris that was in the river. There was dead logs, trees and trash of every kind. Then, He began to show me the trash (the sin) that was cluttering my life.
Two bluebirds landed on the fence in front of me. As pure blue as those birds were in color, was what He wanted my life to be, pure, “white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18 King James Version). He began to show me the pureness and holiness of Himself that He wanted to pour into me.
Then, He drew my attention to two “Martians.” They were flying all over the place with a lot of flapping and beating of the air. Boy, was that me! I began to ask Him to forgive me of all of my fleshy effort of trying to do things in my power and my strength.
I asked Him to “make us so one” so that I could soar with Him and only be moved by His Spirit. At that time, my eyes were drawn to the West, over across the river, a very large bird was flying across the river toward me.
And guess what? It was soaring! Not one time did it flap its wings; but, it soared the whole time and the whole distance until it went out of sight to the East.
And guess what else? It was an Eagle a real, live, soaring Eagle! There was a very strong wind blowing from the South to North. Even with the strong wind coming against him, He still soared.
The Lord assured me that as I looked, hoped and waited on Him, He would make us one. I knew at that moment, I would surely soar with Him.
“But, those who hope in the Lord (wait upon the Lord ) will renew their strength. They will Soar on wings like Eagles , they will run, and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 KJV)
Moses said of Jacob, “The Lord found him in a barren, howling, desert land. He shielded, cared, and guarded him as the Apple of His Eye. Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them, and carries them on its pinions, the Lord alone led him…” (Deuteronomy.32:10-12a KJV)
As the Lord did this for Jacob, He assuredly will do the same for each of us, his children. He continues to call for us to come aside and learn of Him. He desires for us to come and be still,
…to come and sit at His feet, ….to come and seek His Face,…to come and soar with Him.
Each of us are given an open invitation to “Soar with Me.” How do you know? Does He not say, “Come unto Me all you who labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me and you shall find rest unto your souls.” (Mtatthew11:28-29)
Soaring with the Lord above everything that life throws at us is “REST.” Effortless flight!!! We are victoriously moved by God’s great power into His destiny and divine purpose for our lives.
Soaring with Him who makes life so full.
