It Is Much

Multumesc [multsu’mesk] is Romanian for thank you.  It means “it is much.”  I love this!  How this would change our outlook if we saw all that we have as “it is much.”

I went to Romania several years ago and saw extreme poverty up close.  What impressed me the most was the hospitality of these humble people……….giving out of their need.  Opening their homes to us, allowing us to use their out-houses,  bringing homemade treats as refreshments.  Houses with no heat save a wood burning stove, often windows were missing and temperatures freezing.  They layer their clothing (all that they have) to keep warm.  They slug through the mud to feed the pigs, cow, chickens, to take the cows to graze, to come to church.  They stand in the cold for hours to see a nurse for a blood pressure check, glucose screening, and receive bandaids, tylenol, ibuprofen, and other medicines we take for granted.  These people are moved to tears at these simple gifts of concern!  They express “it is much!” through hugs, kisses on both cheeks, bowing, and “multumesc.”

As we approach this season of Thanksgiving, I wonder if we could collectively express our thanks as “it is much.”   Do we see our tables laden with food as “it is much?”  Do we view our families regardless of our functional dysfunction as “it is much!”  Do we see our jobs, friends, church, hobbies, activities, OUR GOD as “IT IS MUCH?”

Father, we bow before you as the Pilgrims did so many years ago in thanksgiving.  Lord, we have much.  Even the poorest among us as Americans are wealthy by world standards.  May we see all that we have as “It is much.”   Father, you are MUCH!  You are ENOUGH!  I desire to live in this place of thanksgiving 24/7.

Malachi 3:10   Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

IT IS MUCH LORD!
