Key to the House
Proverbs 24:3-4 puts the key to understanding Proverbs and its intent in this way: Through wisdom is a house built, by understanding it is established, and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. This my friends is what Jesus is currently building for His Bride! He is away preparing our mansion. A place of nothing but the good and sweet things we were created to enjoy. Paradise. Eden. In the Hebrew, paradise is a word that means atmosphere. A spot, a presence, an open door, delightful. (from Amanda Agaro Edike FB, 4/21/14 God Is Judge and hebrewuniversity.com) In words we can wrap our heads around: a spot on earth where the Presence of God was an open door to Him. A delightful place. THIS was the place we were created for! Think of that. It was a well-watered garden of four rivers. Established (foundation)
Proverbs 21 reminds us God is in control! Sovereign! He directs our hearts and He sees the truth we try to keep buried in our hearts so no one can see. This is our foundation. Examples of our behavior are produced by our heart condition. A good heart produces integrity, honest and pure actions. A bad heart leads to poor interpersonal actions, self destruction, and we often destroy others in the process. God alone delivers the soul of man. He redeems back our stolen hearts.
Fill the Rooms
Proverbs 22 continues to speak of the qualities of a godly life. By humility and fear of the LORD (awe) are riches and honor and life! This life of godliness begins when we are children in training and speaks of actions of an individual being directly related to consequences both in the life of the individual but also in the lives of those they come in contact with, not just loved ones! Important messages are repeated over and over again! We need to heed.
Collector of quotes
Proverbs 23 Solomon must have been a collector of quotes. Wise sayings. Solomon wrote all he told his son into this collection of wisdom. Each Proverbs reminds us, care MUST be given to what we say, all we do, the company we keep, and how we conduct ourselves in private, in public, and in community. The way we treat history and all people (young, peers and parents, elders, and leaders, those of a different nationality, race, creed, ideology, etc.) is of vital importance. This very wealthy, wise king reminds us all of the value of real riches. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon wrote of “the pointlessness of human activity, when he penned these words: “It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after the wind.” (Ecc 1:12b-14)
All we see is NOT all there is.
Proverbs 24 is a reminder that all we see is NOT all there is. Evil can look good. It is a trap. A trap that leads to disease, destruction, and death. “All that glitters is not gold.” Don’t envy what others have, especially the “wicked”. This may be the only heaven they ever know, while this is the only hell believers will ever know and heaven is for eternity. This is a spiritual tug of war for our hearts. (Ephesians 6:12)
Wisdom Shared
A godly lady I have known for years recently shared she reads one chapter in Proverbs EVERY day, and has for over 30 years. This is wisdom. No doubt many of her prayers have found their answers as she read these inspired words each day. There really is “nothing new under heaven,” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) and our “Father cares for us.” (I Peter 5:7) He wants us to “know His will and do it!” (Psalm 57:2) The truth is we could spend years mining the vast treasure found in this collection of wise sayings. Maybe, we should each follow her lead! Maybe, just start with just one verse of Proverbs each day to “chew on” all day. Spiritual bubble gum. What is your favorite proverb? Why? Tell me all about it!
